Master of Applied Science in GIS (by research)

Duration

Overseas (and full-time local) students will complete the course in three semesters (note that Australian immigration requirements restrict part-time study to local students), while part-time local students may complete the course over a three-year period with approval from the course coordinator.

Intake

The intake for the course will normally be in Semester 1 of each year, however mid-year entry may be arranged with approval from the course coordinator;

Course Structure

Students are required to complete 150 points of study, with a minimum of 100 points of research being undertaken (66%) and the remainder by coursework (students can elect to take a greater amount of research if desired);

Course Description

The Master of Applied Science in GIS can be taken with either a research emphasis or a coursework emphasis depending on student needs or past academic performance. The program is designed to meet the needs of graduates employed in the disciplines associated with land administration, natural resource management, facility information management, environmental management, urban planning and conservation, who wish to gain a detailed knowledge of the theory, technology and applications of geographic information systems (GIS) as a subset of the broader discipline of the management of spatial data. These are likely to be graduates in engineering, surveying, geography, planning, environmental science, agriculture and forestry.

Entry Requirements

  • the minimum entry requirement is a 4-year undergraduate degree at honours level, however consideration may be given to applicants holding other qualifications and relevant industry experience;
