Starting Uni in 2008 or beyond:

From 2008 the University will introduce a landmark educational reform known as the 'Melbourne Model'. It is designed to create an outstanding and distinctive Melbourne Experience for all students. Find out more about the Melbourne Model and what it means for Geomatics and Engineering here.

This means that from 2008 there will be a variety of pathways to a career in Geomatics offering you the flexibility to choose a course that is right for you.

• Bachelor of Environments (Geomatics) (3 years) pathway into the Master of Engineering (Geomatics) (2 years)
• Bachelor of Science (Geomatics) (3 years) pathway into the Master of Engineering (Geomatics) (2 years)
• Diploma in Geographic Information Systems

Note: Bachelor of Commerce students need to enrol in a specified sequence of Engineering subjects that will lead to the professional Master of Engineering

Starting Uni before 2008:

An undergraduate degree is offered through the Department of Geomatics. It is also possible to do combined degrees, to undertake single subjects through the Community Access Program (CAP) or to undertake a Diploma of GIS.

• Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering (BGeomE)
  
  At the undergraduate level, the Department runs the 4-year Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering (BGeomE) course. In addition the Department offers several 5-year combined course programs leading to the BGeomE/BSc (Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering/ Bachelor of Science), BGeomE/BA (Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering/Bachelor of Arts) and BGeomE/BIS (Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering/Bachelor of Information Systems). Geomatic Engineering studies may also be undertaken in conjunction with Commerce and Law courses.

• Diploma in Geographic Information Systems

  The University of Melbourne has a suite of diplomas that you can undertake in conjunction with your bachelor degree. The Diploma in GIS caters for students from all disciplines who want to enhance their skills in areas such as GIS, remote sensing, visualisation, spatial analysis, web mapping and location-based services, and allows them to take a sequence of eight additional subjects in either a Geomatics stream or a Geography stream. The Diploma of GIS can be taken concurrently with any undergraduate degree - except the Bachelor of Geomatic Engineering (BGeomE) -and adds an extra year of study.
